The 16th October is observed as World Food Day globally. In Bhutan, the School Agriculture Program (SAP) under the Department of Agriculture (DoA) is responsible for organizing the event in collaboration with Department of Education (MoE). The Global theme for this years world food day is “Change the Future of Migration. Invest in Food Security and Rural Development’’.
This 2017 World Food day celebration was organized at Damphu Central School, Tsirang. As part of the celebration, number of exhibitions by the RNR sector and farmers groups were showcased. The program also included cultural show by different schools, RNR farmers’ quiz, SAP awards. There were also varieties of traditional food prepared and exhibited by farmers group.
In line with others, Agriculture Research and Development Centre (ARDC), Bajo along with ARDSC Tsirang took active participation in exhibiting the latest research technologies generated like improved rice varieties, vegetables seeds and fruit crops.
His Excellency Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Minister of MoAF was the Chief Guest of the event. There were also distinguished dignitaries from FAO, MoAF and MoE and other agencies. According to the WFD theme, the day created awareness and educated public on importance of eating nutritious food and to strengthen economic status to earn their livelihood to fight against the rural poverty.
