Field Visit to Yarjugang Open Air Prison Farm by MoAL Secretary and Officials to Review Agricultural Development Initiatives

Dasho Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL), accompanied by the Director of DoA, APD Chief, Yarjugang OAP focal, and other officials from DoA, visited the Yarjugang OAP Farm in Wangdue today. The ARDC Bajo team, including the Program Director, focal officer, and RCO, joined the visit along with the DAO, ADAO, and Gewog Extension officials of Wangdue Dzongkhag. The delegation was warmly received by RBP officers and key inmates. The visit highlighted ongoing activities such as construction works, chain-link fencing, and agricultural development, which are progressing despite manpower shortages. A total of 7 km of chain-link fencing is targeted for completion within the fiscal year. Land development is underway, with 7 acres cleared and a revised target of 20 acres to be achieved by June 2025. Supported by Government of India (GoI) funding, the project aims to effectively engage inmate labor, strengthen food security, and provide hands-on training opportunities. An irrigation survey has been completed, with implementation planned by December 2025. Crop and fruit cultivation will cater to both consumption and revenue generation. Dasho Secretary stressed the importance of completing planned activities by June 2026, cautioning that delays could result in withdrawal of the allocated budget.
