On January 29, 2025, a delegation of seven wheat scientists from CIMMYT, DAE, NARC, and the UK Met Office, along with two officials from NPPC, visited the Agriculture Research and Development Centre (ARDC) Bajo as part of the Phase 2 WISER AP project meeting held in Bhutan. The primary objective of their visit was to review the wheat research initiatives implemented at the Centre and explore opportunities for further collaboration in wheat research and development.
Sector Heads, Researchers and the District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Wangdue received the visiting team. The Program Director of ARDC Bajo presented an overview of the Centre’s research activities, followed by a detailed briefing from Ms. Yeshey Dema, National Wheat Coordinator, on ongoing wheat research and development initiatives at ARDC Bajo, as well as at other ARDCs and sub-centers.
The presentation highlighted key research activities, including the evaluation of CIMMYT wheat and durum lines, durum wheat trials, bio-fortified wheat trials, and rust sentinel plots. Following the briefing, the delegation visited on-station wheat research plots, farmers’ wheat fields, and engaged in discussions with local farmers and extension personnel.
The visiting scientists commended the progress of wheat research in Bhutan, recognizing the significant advancements in ongoing research and development efforts.
