Upland Rice Cultivation in Sergithang Gewog, Tsirang Dzongkhag

In FY 2024-25, ARDSC Menchhuna promoted upland rice cultivation in Sergithang Gewog, Tsirang Dzongkhag, as a demonstration project benefiting nine households, covering six acres. The area faces irrigation challenges due to its hilly terrain and limited water sources, with an altitude ranging from 730 to 1037 meters. Despite being grown under rain-fed, non-irrigated conditions, the rice performed satisfactorily, highlighting its potential in challenging environments. This initiative aimed to enhance food security and assess the viability of upland rice for future cultivation in similar regions. Ongoing monitoring will further evaluate its impact and optimize yields for long-term success.
