Demonstration on Fertilizer Application for Citrus Growers

The ARDC Bajo, successfully conducted a series of demonstrations on fertilizer application for citrus growers across Dagana, Tsirang, and Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhags from 12th to 24th March 2026 under the Accelerate Bhutan’s Job Transformation Through Renewable Natural Resource Value Chains Project.

The activity aimed to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and skills in effective nutrient management to improve citrus productivity, fruit quality, and overall orchard performance. The demonstrations were primarily targeted at beneficiaries who had earlier participated in the Integrated Citrus Orchard Management training.

During the program, hands-on guidance was provided on the application of farmyard manure and chemical fertilizers, including recommended doses, timing, and methods such as circle banding and trenching, tailored to different field conditions. The activity covered multiple gewogs and villages, benefiting over 120 citrus growers.

Despite challenges such as delayed fertilizer supply, limited input availability, and difficult field conditions, the program was successfully implemented through coordinated efforts and field-level adjustments, including household visits to ensure wider coverage.

The initiative is expected to enhance adoption of improved nutrient management practices and contribute to increased citrus productivity and sustainable livelihood development among farming communities.
