Demonstration and Awareness Programme on Vegetable Production Conducted in Laya

The ARDC Bajo, conducted a week-long demonstration and awareness programme on vegetable production for farmers in Laya, Gasa Dzongkhag, as part of the Royal Highland Festival (RHF) programme.

The programme aimed to promote and demonstrate appropriate vegetable cultivation practices under both sunken and conventional greenhouse systems. The initiative was undertaken to support the production of fresh green vegetables in greenhouses during the RHF period while enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills in greenhouse vegetable production.

As part of the programme, the ARDC Bajo team conducted house-to-house visits and practical demonstrations, providing farmers with hands-on guidance on appropriate vegetable cultivation practices, greenhouse management and production techniques suitable for both types of greenhouse systems. A total of 30 households were covered during the week-long programme.

The programme was implemented in close collaboration with the Laya Extension Office, which supported the ARDC Bajo team in facilitating the activities and engaging with farmers. As a follow-up to the programme, sprinklers and irrigation pipes are planned to be provided to 10 progressive farmers with greenhouses to support efficient irrigation and sustained vegetable production.

The initiative is expected to contribute to improved utilization of greenhouse facilities, enhanced vegetable production, and increased availability of locally produced fresh vegetables in Laya, particularly during the Royal Highland Festival.
